The Dogs That Inspire Me Every Day

The Dogs That Inspire Me Every Day

I always say my business started because of my love for dogs — but the truth is, it’s the dogs themselves who keep it going. Our first taste-tester was Kava, our Great Dane. She was really the reason I began making homemade treats. I had never adopted a purebred before, and once I started researching her health needs, my curiosity grew.

Before long, I was in the kitchen experimenting, determined to
create something better. Our other pups — Jack, Russell, and Sandy — eagerly joined in, tails wagging at every new batch. They truly were my inspiration, and the spark that got everything started.

Though those beloved pups are no longer with us, Dewey and Frida have happily taken over as our official taste-testers. Dewey, with his stubborn “boss of everyone” Jack Russell energy, quickly proved to be the toughest critic. If a treat wasn’t perfect, he’d turn his nose up. Honestly, he helped me refine my recipes — especially the veggie treats. At first, he wasn’t impressed. But once I made them thinner and crispier, he fell in love. Now, he and Frida both go crazy for them, especially when they’re still warm out of the dehydrator. I’ve even thought about putting a little light on at the store to let pups (and their humans) know when a fresh batch is ready!

Frida, our gentle Great Dane, is more adventurous but still has her opinions. There are some treats she and Dewey will flat-out refuse and I can’t help but laugh. I think, “Wow, how bad must those things taste if even a dog won’t eat them?”

Beyond my own dogs, I think often of the rescues I’ve met through the shelters we’ve partnered with. There’s something humbling about offering a shy or nervous pup one of our heart-shaped crackers and watching their eyes soften just a little. It reminds me that what we’re doing isn’t just about snacks — it’s about connection.

I’ve heard so many touching stories from customers, too. Some share that their dog would only eat our treats while going through chemo. Others tell me their pup, missing teeth, could still enjoy our beef or turkey flavors because they’re crunchy yet soft enough to manage.

Those stories stick with me and keep me going.
Dogs don’t care about trends or fancy packaging. They care about how something makes them feel. Our bags are still simple — bulk packaging with hand-applied stickers — because the quality inside matters so much more. One day, yes, we’ll polish the packaging.

But for now, what matters is the crunch, the health, and the love baked into every bite.
If our treats can bring comfort, joy, or just one happy crunch to a dog — whether it’s the most spoiled pup on the block or a rescue waiting for a forever home — then every single hour I’ve spent in the kitchen has been worth it.
